Modern operations management at waste management centres.

Previously, the operations of waste management centres have required several different systems and integrations between them. Logistics companies have provided waste transfer notes in paper format or via various waste transfer note applications. In connection with weighing events, there may have been the need for multiple reader devices and printers for the identification of customers and for the supply of receipts. Invoicing was carried out manually with the help of waste transfer notes. Authority reporting required days, if not weeks of manual work. Inventory management has been carried out with the help of various applications.

MaterialPort Center moves all of this into the past by offering a modern SaaS overall solution that operates as a cloud service for the operations of waste management centres.

More efficiency with the help of an overall solution

MaterialPort Center is responsible for the functions concerning the everyday operations of the waste management centres, with focus on the collection of pre-data concerning weighing events via pre-registrations, preparations of electronic waste transfer notes and the collection of weighing data to be carried out at the waste management centre, processing and inventory management. It also supports self-service weighing events which allows selected logistics companies to use and perform weighing events outside normal opening hours. In this case, the driver carries out the weighing event via a mobile application.
MaterialPort Center includes comprehensive inventory management functions which diversely support the utilisation processes of various wastes and the real-time monitoring of inventories. Since all the data concerning the waste flows are already in the system, authority and other reports can be exported directly from the system whenever necessary.

Facilitating inventory management and reporting

MaterialPort Center provides extensive inventory management functions. There are tools that facilitate monitoring available in inventory management, such as the maturity calculation of the inventory and various alert thresholds that can be specified. Inventory logging is based on RD and EWC classification and it enables the flexible specification of waste processes for both waste arriving at the waste management centre, internal processes and any end products that are distributed or sold.

The inventory balances are updated in real time when new weighing events have been logged in the system.

Electronic waste transfer note ready to use at no extra cost

The legally required electronic waste transfer notes are automatically prepared in the MaterialPort Centre via preregistration. The electronic waste transfer note includes all the legally required details.

From the beginning of 2021, MaterialPort Center shall be integrated with the Ministry of the Environment’s digital waste transfer note register. MaterialPort Center already contains all the required details, so there is no need to build new integrations between the different systems.

Integration with other systems

MaterialPort Center already includes integrations for scale systems and the addition of new integrations can be added according to needs.

In most cases, MaterialPort may want to also be connected to existing invoicing systems. After the completion of the weighing event, the transfer to invoicing does not require any manual measures, but instead it operates in an automated manner.

Other integrations to third-party systems can be built for the system according to needs.

Developed in cooperation

The MaterialPort product family has been developed in cooperation with five waste management companies. Participants have included Lakeuden Etappi Oy, Pirkanmaan jätehuolto Oy, Vestia Oy, Rosk’n Roll Oy Ab and Lounais-Suomen Jätehuolto Oy. The companies have been responsible for the specification work of the system together with the system developer Elenium Oy.

As a result of collaboration, the system has been developed into a system that best serves the needs of waste management companies, and it meets the needs of 2020s’ legislation and the entire society to add circular economy and efficiency to the processing and recycling of waste.
